Roland Arnold wins German Entrepreneurs' Award 2012
Major tribute for PARAVAN MD from the world-famous Harvard University
Frankfurt, 6 November 2012 – At the OpernTurm in Frankfurt Roland Arnold, the founder and managing partner of Paravan GmbH, the world leader for perfectly adapted mobility solutions for the disabled, was presented with first prize in the German Entrepreneurs' Award in the category Social Business.
Before an audience which included the renowned Professor John R. Wells from American elite university Harvard, Arnold impressed listeners with his description of the company's strategic focus and the work carried out by its charitable foundation, the Roland & Martina Arnold PARAVAN-Stiftung. The decision of the high-calibre 35-strong panel to award first place to the firm was prompted by its strategies and economic approach: Paravan mobility park is gradually extending its portfolio with patented in-house developments and now boasts a unique "single source" product range ensuring absolute freedom for people whose movement is restricted. One special highlight was the social commitment shown by the Roland & Martina Arnold PARAVAN-Stiftung which is passionate about offering support to families with disabled children who are in need.
At the prize-giving ceremony, Arnold was not only presented with a winner's certificate and a trophy but was also offered the unique opportunity to attend a top-flight management seminar at Harvard University in Boston, USA. At the same time, Paravan's boss will have access to the exclusive network of Harvard alumni and leading figures from business, culture and science all over the world.
"I am delighted about this high-ranking award. It is wonderful confirmation of our work aimed at ensuring the mobility of disabled people over recent years – both for me and my staff. The next step is to maintain this success, living up to our motto: A personalised service wins out. He who stops being better stops being good." was the comment from Arnold.
The German Entrepreneurs' Award set up by the Harvard Clubs of Germany is one of the most prestigious awards for owner-operated SMEs and is only handed out every two years. The aim of this prize is to pay tribute to firms who act as an example to others and to foster public recognition of free enterprise. The initiators are partnered here by the leading Swiss bank UBS, the Dutch Triple A-rated Rabobank, Lufthansa, Harvard Business Manager and the internationally successful companies of the Conteam Group, Dorma and Goldbeck.
Based on the presentations made by the companies, the panel selected two finalists for each of the four award categories from a total of 21 firms. Belonging to many different branches of industry, all had fought off strong competition to reach the finals. Roland Arnold was then named as the winner of the 2012 German Entrepreneurs' Award in the category of Social Business.
News channel n-tv awards SME prize: PARAVAN mobility park is the "Hidden Champion 2012" in the category "Social Responsibility"!
Aichelau/Frankfurt. In the framework of Global Business Week the SME prize "Hidden Champion" in the category "Social Responsibility" was awarded to PARAVAN's MD Roland Arnold by the n-tv news channel at a ceremony held at the Steigenberger Hotel in Frankfurt am Main. The high-calibre judging panel and board of trustees made up of figures from the worlds of business, media and society were won over by the corporate philosophy shared by all employees: to offer disabled people a new quality of life by supplying a full range of evolutionary mobility products. Arnold's mobility park beat off another 100 successful companies to win the category of Social Responsibility thanks to the social commitment the firm has shown. The decision in terms of responsibility towards society was clinched by the "Roland & Martina Arnold PARAVAN-Stiftung", which is committed to supporting families with disabled children who are in need. The award went to Otto Bock GmbH, the overall winner with its 6000 employees.
"It wasn't an easy decision", said the praising speaker, Hans J.M. Manteuffel at the prize-giving ceremony on Thursday evening, as there was very little to choose between the finalists. "Roland Arnold is however passionate about his objective of making life enjoyable for people with impaired mobility", emphasised the publisher of the Czerwensky intern business information service.
"I am delighted that tribute has been paid in this form to our innovations and the support we offer people all round the world whose movement is restricted. This proves that we – and with this I mean my entire PARAVAN team – are on the right track. I should like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to this success and also congratulate Otto Bock GmbH on being the overall winner", commented Roland Arnold after the prize-giving ceremony.
n-tv's "Hidden Champion" prize for SMEs has been awarded since 2011 under the patronage of Germany's Minister of Economic Affairs. The categories of the award are Sustainability, Social Responsibility, Brand, Generational Transition and Overall Winner. The cooperation partners are the Maleki Group and the UBS Group.
"The SME sector is inextricably linked to the economic success of a country", emphasised Hans Demmel, the organiser and CEO of n-tv. Thanks to their sound judgement, the people heading up such firms have managed to skilfully steer their companies through every crisis and take responsibility for their workforce. Good corporate management is put into practice here on a daily basis.
Coming hard on the heels of the German Industry Award and the Bavarian State Prize, "Hidden Champion 2012" is the third award this successful company has notched up this year.
PARAVAN presented with GERMAN INDUSTRY AWARD 2012
Hanover/Aichelau. At the "Night of Innovation" held at the world-famous Hanover trade fair, PARAVAN's Managing Director Roland Arnold was presented with the German Industry Award in the category of Automotive by Prof. Bruno O. Braun, President of the Association of German Engineers (VDI). The new, triple-redundant "Space Drive 2" driving system was singled out by the high-ranking 30-strong judging panel from over 500 applications.
Equipped with numerous new features, the evolutionary joystick steering collection from the PARAVAN mobility park offers the disabled absolute, unrestricted mobility with triple the safety. "The future of the automobile depends to a significant degree on the sophisticated technology used for disability vehicles. The patented innovations of the visionary Roland Arnold already open up an entirely new concept for vehicle interiors", remarked Professor Spiegelberg of the top technical university, TU München.
No steering column, steering wheel or dashboard. But with a joystick, display and flat screen instead. This makes it possible to build smaller, more environmentally-friendly and more energy-efficient cars with more room inside and greater comfort. In addition, only environmentally-compatible materials are used in production: this even goes as far as designer water-based paintwork.
A look into the next decade – leading scientists even see the "Space Drive" as paving the way for vehicle design in the next 20 years. The so-called PlayStation Generation, who grew up with games consoles, find a joystick easier and safer to use than a steering wheel and pedals.
Since the introduction of the German Industry Award in 2006, there have never been so many applications as in this year. This meant that selecting the winner was no mean feat for the independent panel of judges, made up of university professors and well-known journalists from the trade press. Last Monday evening was the date chosen for the ceremony at the world's leading trade fair for cutting-edge technology in the capital of Lower Saxony:
And the winner for the "Industry's Best", is……. Roland Arnold and the PARAVAN Innovation Team!
Bavarian State Prize 2012
presented to Paravan
Munich / Pfronstetten. At a ceremony held at the International Congress Center Munich (ICM) Hermann Lück, Department Director of the Bavarian State Ministry, presented Paravan boss Roland Arnold with the coveted Bavarian State Prize 2012 for special design and technology achievements in the skilled trades sector.
The high-ranking panel were in raptures about the evolutionary seat collection produced by the Development department at Aichelau. An innovation that makes boarding and exiting simpler as well as easing discomfort in vehicles for the growing number of people whose movement is restricted – both in demographic and medical terms.
Heinrich Traublinger, President of the Munich and Upper Bavaria Chamber of Crafts and former member of the Bavarian Parliament, paid tribute to Arnold's achievement, describing it as the embodiment of quality, efficiency, modern design and innovative strength in the skilled trades sector.
The seat concept for both the driver and front passenger side that was singled out for the award is not available anywhere else in the world. Until now the steering wheel had restricted the space to manoeuvre to such an extent that it was not previously possible to assist drivers when boarding and exiting a vehicle with a rotating or swivel seat. Roland Arnold's motto of "We don't do No can do" helped him come up with a smart solution to this problem: it is only the seat surface and a small lumbar support that moves. The backrest does not change position in the vehicle, which means that the steering wheel no longer gets in the way during rotation. An innovative mechanism ensures that the user is moved around the B-pillar safely. At 120 degrees, the swivel range is especially generous. A stand-up function offers additional security. Both the driver and the front passenger seat have been crash-tested in accordance with the ECE R-17 guideline. Individual, ergonomic seat adaptation improves concentration in road traffic, so reducing the risk of accidents.
"We are delighted that our innovative efforts on behalf of everyone whose movements are restricted are not just appreciated in the state of Baden-Württemberg. A big thank-you goes to the government of Bavaria for this special tribute. But also to our customers and staff at the Paravan mobility park", remarked Paravan boss, Roland Arnold after the prize-giving ceremony.
PARAVAN awarded "Grand SME Prize 2011" in Würzburg
Würzburg/Pfronstetten-Aichelau: At the 50th gala of the Oskar-Plazelt-Stiftung, Paravan was presented with the "Grand SME Prize 2011". Würzburg's Congress Centrum was the venue chosen for handover of the coveted "Oskar" statue for SMEs to company founder and MD Roland Arnold before an audience of 500 guests, which included Dallas star Larry Hagman (J.R. Ewing). Our innovative company fended off over 3500 small and medium-sized firms from all over Germany in this national competition. Factors which prompted the award included Paravan's outstanding overall development, the creation and securing of jobs (including for trainees), exemplary achievements in the different competition criteria of "Innovation and Modernisation, Commitment to the Region as well as Service, Customer Proximity and Marketing". The panel was particularly impressed by the integrated mobility concept that has been consistently developed by Paravan in recent years to cater for the individual needs of customers. A one-stop shop, everything under one roof. This is the motto of the ideas factory, combining a workforce of 120 employees with an impressive product portfolio, ranging from the company's own seat collection, designed to make boarding and exiting easier, to the evolutionary PR 50 power wheelchair through to the digital-electronic Space Drive driving and steering system. The benefit to the customer is clear. A single contact for customised mobility for the disabled. Tribute was paid to the company's unique commitment with the award of the "SME Oskar".
The "Grand SME Prize" has already been in existence for 17 years and ranks as one of the most important business awards for mid-sized enterprises in Germany due to the high numbers of entrants and the ISO-certified test criteria.
